Music Keys App Reviews
I played a round of "Music Keys" and I think children would find it fun to play for a little while. Also, it would get you familiar with the names and locations of the keys. 10Mb download.
As a music teacher, I was hoping that I might have found an easy game to help my son begin to learn the notes of the piano, since he is more into playing computer games, than playing music. However, this game has so many flaws even though its almost as simple as it could possibly get. I dislike that the names of the notes are written out instead of spelled how you would see them in music (e.g. C sharp rather than C#) which will not help anyone wishing to read music properly. The worst fault of this game, is that it plays tones with each note that you push, however, they are just random tones, sometimes attributing the same tone to completely different notes. While its fine to teach kids where notes are on a keyboard, if youre going to have tones/pitches at least make them accurate so that they can hear how those pitches are going to sound on the keyboard in relationship to one another. Ill be deleting this one. Good thing it was free.
This is really boring, and I was expecting the addition of written music. Had hoped to use this in my classroom, but the kids would be yawning in 3 seconds. Sorry.
I used this in my classroom with our keyboarding unit and it was helpful for the students who dont take piano. They were able to locate the names of the white keys using this as a giant "key". I would love a replica of this app from A-A so we can discuss minor keys.
No MIDI support
Could have been fun, but doesnt work with a midi keyboard like their iMusic does.
This app is cute and easy to use, but the notes played when you click on keys are NOT accurate—in fact, they seem to be random. I will not be using this app with my kids.
I am a professional musician and public school music teacher, auditioning this app for my students. When I correctly click a note I hear the sound of the next note to click, not the one I just clicked/identified. That will train young students to associate the wrong sound with each piano key and note name. Fix this flaw, and itll be a fine app.
This does NOT teach notes as it only plays random notes when the correct keys are clicked. A musician did not create this app. I think that this could be useful if the correct tone was produced when you click on the corresponding key. I believe that all children are capable of learning relative pitch - I think that this is harmful to insinuate that this teaches anything. Do not download this app.
Playing on OSX 10.7.5 there is no sound for the piano. Other sounds, (Like menu and some sound when you exit), work. How can you have a piano app without piano sounds? 0 stars.
BUMP --> Again, what is pushed is not the correct sound
Will not be using this until it is corrected - app needs to play the sound as the note is played, then sound the next note.
Great Music App
Plays very well, visually appealing, and fun. Very clean graphics - I hope they have a full version of the app.
The developers have an amazing understanding of what works... after downloading this and having a quick play I think it’s clear that this is the best app in the App Store for piano learning... not only is it loads of fun but it’s really effective and I can’t complain at all. Cute characters and easy to use... perfect for kids!
My Daughter Loves it!
My daughter can sit and play this for hours. Thank goodness for headphones!
Cool Player
Love it. The light up notes make learning easy for any player. Wish it had more backgrounds though!
Love Play Mode
The Play Mode is a ton of fun. Having to recognize notes is hard!!!!! I feel like im learning tho
The kids like the app. It keeps them entertained for a bit. At the same time, it doesnt quit when you tell it to, to the point that I have to force quit the app each time :S
its stupid, only shows youone song to play twinkle twinkle little star, and you you dont follow along during the song it just plays the song once thru when you open the app then it quizes you on keys. Based on the graphics i thought this would be fun for my four year old but he was bored with in inside a minute.
Please Make Compatible With Midi Keyboard
If you were able to use a midi keyboard with this app it would make it that more awesome...
I mostly use this for a purpose other than the intended one. If I need to determine the pitch or key of what I’m hearing, I find it handy to launch this game in its smallest windowed configuration so I can just play the keys along with what I am hearing. Sure, there are other things I could use to do that, but it’s very simple to just use this.
When in "Train" mode, it gives you the pitch of the next note to be played, and not the one you actually did play! PLEASE fix this flaw and Ill give you 5 Stars for a great educational app.
Nice app with one BIG flaw! PLEASE FIX IT!

More than a game
